The main objective of the economic section of the Royal Netherlands Embassy in Tirana lies in the familiarisation for Dutch companies with suitable Albanian investment areas. Many Dutch companies are unfamiliar with Albania and its economy. There are, however, sectors in which Dutch and Albanian companies can co-operate. The Balkan region as a whole is becoming a more important economic player in the world market. (Albania is one of the eight countries that have free trade agreements for many products. The other countries are Bosnia – Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Rumania and Serbia-Montenegro)

The economic and trade section of the Embassy offers assistance to Dutch companies that want to invest in Albania or export their products or services to Albania, as well as to Albanian companies that want to find a partner, supplier or subcontractor in the Netherlands.

The PESP programme (co) finances feasibility studies in possible joint ventures before the actual investments start of. The PSO programme (co) finances Dutch investments in a joint venture with an Albanian company.
